JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
Caring for Your H&Aquarius Jewelry
Every material has its own character. Thoughtful care helps preserve the finish, color and brilliance of your jewelry for longer.
GENERAL CARE
Daily wear
- Keep jewelry away from water, perfume, lotions, alcohol, cleaning products and other chemicals.
- Remove pieces before showering, swimming, exercising, cooking or cleaning.
- Avoid drops, knocks, pressure and contact with hard surfaces.
- After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry, non-abrasive cloth.
Storage
- Make sure each piece is clean and completely dry before storing.
- Store pieces separately to reduce friction, scratches and tangling.
- Keep jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
- For pieces with delicate or unusual stones, follow any product-specific care instructions provided.
GOLD-PLATED JEWELRY
Preserve the finish by reducing friction, moisture and chemical exposure.
Gold-plated jewelry is created by applying a layer of gold over a base metal. Because the gold layer sits at the surface, its appearance will naturally evolve with wear. Friction, moisture, perspiration, perfume, skincare products and household chemicals may gradually affect the plating.
Care
- Apply perfume, lotions and cosmetics before putting your jewelry on.
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
- Keep the piece dry and store it separately in a cool, dry place.
Avoid
- Showering, swimming, exercising, cooking or cleaning while wearing the piece.
- Abrasive cleaners, chemical jewelry dips and harsh polishing products.
- Do not use a silver polishing cloth on gold-plated jewelry.
STERLING SILVER
Natural tarnish is part of sterling silver's character.
Sterling silver naturally reacts with air, moisture and individual skin chemistry, and may develop tarnish or subtle changes in tone over time. This is a natural characteristic of silver rather than a manufacturing defect.
Care
- Keep silver jewelry dry and away from chlorine, perfume, lotions and household chemicals.
- Wipe gently after wear before storing.
- A silver polishing cloth may be used on unplated sterling silver to help restore its shine.
Storage
- Store in a dry, enclosed pouch or lined jewelry box.
- Keep pieces separate to help prevent scratching and oxidation caused by excess moisture.
GEMSTONES & CRYSTALS
Natural. Individual. Delicate.
Natural gemstones and crystals are formed by nature, so variations in color, pattern, clarity and inclusions are part of their individual character. Different stones vary in hardness and structure; many crystals, jade, agate and other naturally formed materials may chip, fracture or scratch if dropped or struck against a hard surface.
Care
- Handle gently and avoid drops, knocks and pressure.
- Keep away from harsh chemicals, perfume and prolonged exposure to water.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes.
- Clean only with a soft cloth unless a more specific method is recommended for that stone.
Storage & cleaning
- Store gemstone pieces individually in a soft pouch or lined compartment.
- Keep harder stones and metals away from softer materials to reduce scratching.
- Unless specifically recommended for the stone, avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning.
CZ, LAB-GROWN STONES & DIAMONDS
Durable does not mean indestructible.
Diamonds and other faceted stones can be durable, but neither the stone nor its setting is indestructible. A strong impact may chip a stone or loosen the setting that holds it in place.
Care
- Avoid strong impact, pressure and activities where the jewelry may strike a hard surface.
- Gently clean around stone settings with a soft cloth or soft brush when appropriate.
- Make sure the piece is completely dry before storage.
Check the setting
- If a stone begins to move or a setting appears damaged, stop wearing the piece until it has been inspected.
- Avoid pulling, bending or applying pressure directly to pavé, prongs or other delicate settings.
PEARLS & MOTHER OF PEARL
Soft luster requires gentler care.
Pearls and mother of pearl are naturally delicate and require gentler care than many gemstones.
Care
- Put them on last after perfume, skincare and cosmetics, and remove them first.
- After wear, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth.
- Store separately from harder jewelry to help prevent scratches.
Avoid
- Prolonged contact with water, perspiration, perfume, hairspray and household chemicals.
- Silver polishing cloths, abrasive cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners.
ENAMEL
Protect the surface from impact and abrasion.
Enamel can retain its color beautifully with proper care, but its surface may chip or crack if dropped or struck.
Care
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.
- Store separately from other jewelry to reduce scratching and impact.
Avoid
- Drops, knocks and hard surfaces.
- Abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to water or direct sunlight.
STORAGE
Give every piece its own space.
Make sure your jewelry is clean and completely dry before storing. Keep each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment to reduce friction, scratching and tangling. Store jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
